We were very unlucky to find our usual room completely flooded and not available for us to use!
BUT were VERY LUCKY to be moved to an excellent new spot by the lovely Library Staff at
Whitton AND to have two amazing special visitors....
The first one was:
MATTHEW WHERRY - who is the current Deputy Mayor of Richmond and who came to join us on his
day off. Amusingly his first experience of awarding UK Citizenship last week, was to one of our most
loyal trustees and ex-learners: AZIZE HANGISI.
The 2nd one was:
CONSTABLE MARIA RASOOLI - whom Ruth has known since she arrived as a 7year old refugee from
Afghanistan and is now a member of the Metropolitan Police Ant-Terrorist Squad.
The morning was a huge success with the sharing of information and the fun of trying on handcuffs and handling
other pieces of police equipment was very popular!
The home languages of the participants were:
JAPANESE, RUSSIAN, SINHALA, PASHTO, BENGALI, TURKISH, CANTONESE, HINDI, PUNJABI, FARSI/DARI and
URDU.
We look forward to the promised return visits from both Maria and Matthew!
