Founded in 2001, Richmond EAL Friendship Group became a charity in 2008. We specialise in teaching new English speakers in Richmond, South West London, using informal classes as a stepping stone to volunteering, employment, and accredited courses.
The charity reflects global politics in a local microcosm, influenced by the ending of the Ankara Agreement following Brexit, through to Mainland Chinese policy on Hong Kong, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
We host various events, including daytime classes, picnics, walks, swimming, languages celebration parties, and educational cooking workshops. EAL classes involve group discussions and benefit from the support of various organisations.
Most of all I have loved being able to introduce people of all ages to each other to enable and encourage lasting friendships.
Thanks to our funders for enabling us to provide free classes and activities to all our learners without means testing.
We love visitors and would encourage you to come and see our classes and activities for yourselves.
Thanks to Virginia Lam and the Language Show for the opportunity to present our work.
